Readme/Help File Qweet's Jersey Installer for NBA Live 2003 Contents: 1) Overview 2) How to use 3) Future versions 4) Contact information 1) Overview One day I was playing NBA Live 2003, when I thought to myself, "Maybe I could make an easy way to add new jerseys to this game! I really want to add some more but DBF Editor's expiry date is running out!" So, after gaining a bit more programming know-how, I started working on this program. Once I discovered that such a program was possible (for me to make!) I made a post on nba-live.com's forum to see if this program was needed by anyone. If not I was not going to waste my time making it. I didn't expect much feedback, but a lot of people seemed interested (especially metaphysical ;) so I decided to finish it. Now I have this program. Boy was it is life saver! I can add new jersey's real easy, and with NO dbf editing! So finally it is released for general download. 2) How to Use The actual program almost explains itself when you open it up; someone who's familiar could probably use it without even looking at these instructions. However, I thought it would be a good idea to make a comprehensive help file anyway. The first thing you need to do to install a jersey (this is for beginners to the game) is to open the file in c:\program files\ea sports\nba live 2003(or whatever your live directory is)\main\cscripts\xstartup.cfg. It can be opened with notepad. Now scroll down to the bottom until you see the line "customart 0" Change the 0 to a 1. The other thing you must do is go into your main live directory, and open the folder called "render". Create a new folder in this called "xteam". Now copy whatever jersey files you have downloaded into this new directory. For example tocl02.fsh and tocl02_num.fsh. You also must remember the last 4 letters in the filename, they are important later (namely the cl02 part). When you open up the program, you will notice a whole bunch of boxes that need to be filled in. Don't worry, filling these in takes all of 30 seconds (which is the beauty of this program!) What follows is an explanation of every one of these fields. Directory of TeamGear.dbf - This is the directory where the teamgear.dbf is stored. By default there is c:\my documents\nba live 2003\saves\ already entered. This can be changed though if this is a different directory (like with WindowsXP, thanks FriarFan). Now you just add the number of the save slot where the roster is stored that you want to add the file to. If you don't have any rosters stored, go into the game, go to options->load/save-> and click save roster. Remember which save slot it is in. Go back to the program and add the save slot number to the end of the directory like I explained above. So for example if your save slot is 000 then your directory should look like this c:\my documents\nba live 2003\saves\000 If you are adding the jersey to a roster you use often, you might want to make a backup of teamgear.dbf in its respective folder, just in case. Team Number - This is the number of the team you are adding the jersey to. The common team numbers I know off the top of my head are: 0 = Atlanta 1 = Boston 2 = Chicago 3 = Cleveland 4 = Dallas 5 = Denver 6 = Detroit 7 = Golden State 8 = Houston 9 = Indiana 10 = LA Clippers 11 = LA Lakers 12 = Memphis 13 = Miami 14 = Milwaukee 15 = Minnisota 16 = New Jersey 17 = New Orleans 18 = New York 19 = Orlando 20 = Philadelphia 21 = Phoenix 22 = Portland 23 = Sacramento 24 = San Antonio 25 = Seattle 26 = Toronto (GO RAPS!) 27 = Utah 28 = Washington So just set it to the team you want. Jersey Name - Remember I told you to remember the last 4 letters of the file? (cl02) That's what this is. So if the last 4 letters were cl02 then type in cl02. Year - This is the year you want to appear on the jersey selection screen. It must be seven letters\numbers in length. Jersey Type - Just check the drop down menu. This is what type of jersey it says it is at the jersey selection screen. Accessory Colour - Changes what the automatic accessory colour is when playing with this jersey. For example, if you create a player with a headband with colour automatic, it will appear as this colour. Shoe - Picks which is the automatic shoe with the jersey. Check out create players, it shows all the shoes there. Sock Colour - Which is the automatic sock colour with the jersey. Neck Type - Changes what type of neck it is, sorry I don't know which is which. Lettering Type - Changes if the names on the back of the jersey are curved and spaced out or straight and tight together. Well that just about does it for the fields. Once everything is entered just click the "go" button. If all is well it will tell you that the jersey was installed correctly. To try out the jersey, go into the game and reload your roster. This is important. Then go to the jersey selection screen and it should be there. BTW you can go File->Reset Fields to set every field to the default. 3) Future Versions In future versions of the program I hope to fix that annoying pop up box when the program starts up, add a way to delete custom jerseys from teamgear.dbf, and add a way for patchmakers to automate installation. Probably more stuff too. 4) Contact Information You can email me or messenge me at qwifpt@hotmail.com. I'm always happy to help you out with your problems. Copyright info - You can distribute this program all you want, just keep the readme the way it is and don't try to take credit for the program. Thanks to: FriarFan for pointing out the WindowsXP dilemna, Metaphysical for being so persistant in me releasing, Nick for some help, My cousin John for some programming info, All the guys at nba-live.com - thanks for the support and all the great patches! That's all for now. Qweet signing off.
